HYDERABAD, Aug 9: The district Nazim, Hyderabad, Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman, has directed the HDA and management of Works and Communication to prepare a short-term and long-term ‘master plan’ for the development of Hyderabad and submit it within a week so that both immediate as well as long-term relief could be ensured for the citizens of Hyderabad.
He directed this while presiding over a meeting of development work at the Circuit House on Saturday.
He said that the ‘master plan’ would be presented to President Pervez Musharraf during his forthcoming visit to interior Sindh.
He said that Rs210 million, including Rs30 million for Qasimabad, Rs20 million for Latifabad and Rs10 for Hyderabad city, was required to restore the water supply and sewerage system, while Rs150 million was urgently required to get all roads repaired within four months by the Taluka Municipal administrations under the short-term plan.
He directed that other towns of the district such as Saeedabad, Hala, Matiari and Shah Abdul Karim Bulri would also be included in the master plan to provide better water supply, sewerage and communication facilities to the people of the district.
While discussing long-term planning, the district Nazim emphasized that it should not only include replacement of outdated and defective sewerage lines of Hyderabad city, Latifabad and Qasimabad, but should also meet the future requirements of water supply, sewerage and communication facilities at least for the next 25 to 30 years.
He said two flyover bridges — one each at Latifabad No7 and Mirza Para, six fire brigade vehicles — two each for the Taluka Municipal administration of Hyderabad city, Qasimabad and Latifabad, construction of a link road between the Hyderabad bypass and Mirpurkhas Road, repairing of all roads leading to the city and main roads of the city and establishment of a solid waste treatment plant will be included in the long-term plan.
He said that more than Rs2 billion would be required to implement the long-term master plan for which the federal government would be requested.
Expressing concern over the poor performance of development works under the Rs500 million special package, the district Nazim demanded that the Sindh government make the DCO, Hyderabad, project director so that a satisfactory result of the project could be achieved.
He directed the HDA to prepare a feasibility report for converting all 40 water supply and 80 sewerage pumping stations from electricity to Sui Gas to save energy bills worth Rs15 million each month.
He directed that a report of revenue recovery from private housing schemes and its utilization be submitted to him within two days saying that henceforth the recovery from housing schemes should not be utilized for any other purpose.
He allocated Rs450,000 for completion of a sewerage system from Pathan Colony to Jacob Line and directed that it must be completed within three months.
He also directed that construction of 80 new manholes in Hyderabad city and restoration of sewerage lines, especially at Sarfaraz Incline, Hyder Chowk and Shah Makki Road, be ensured.
