SUKKUR, Aug 7: Two people were killed and 20 others injured in an armed clash between two groups of the Shambani tribe in the Punjoo Shambani village over a piece of land, near Kandhra, Rohri Taluka, Sukkur district, on Thursday.
One group was led by Mehlo Shambhani, while the other by Machando Shambhani. Both had been fighting over possession of the land since the last several months.
On Thursday, both the groups attempted to take possession of the land as a result of which the armed clash started. The exchange of fire continued for one and a half hour as a result of which two tribesmen, Subhan Shambhani and Ali Shambhani, were killed while 20 others injured.
All the injured were taken to the Civil Hospital Sukkur.
The names of some of the injured were ascertained as Mehlo Shambhani, Lal Bux, Bahawal, Naseero, Qurban, Kashif, Aslam Rano, Badshah, Barkat, Machando, and Rafique.
Hospital sources said that the condition of four was serious.
Heavy police contingents were sent from Sukkur and Rohri to the site of the clash to control the situation. Extra police check posts were also established in the village.
DPO Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh also deployed a police force in the Taluka Hospital Rohri and Sukkur where the injured were taken.
MAHAR-JATOI CLASH: A man was shot dead and two women among five others were injured in a clash between Mahar and Jatoi tribesmen in a village near Lakhi, about 15 kilometres off here, on Thursday.
The clash followed an altercation between the two groups as the Mahars objected to the sitting of some Jatoi tribesmen on the roof of a bus in the Rehmatullah Mahar village near Lakhi.
Abdul Sattar was killed and Qaim Ali Jatoi, Himmat Ali Jatoi, Quwat Ali Jatoi, Ms Ziarat and Ms Bagul were injured in the clash.
The police reached the spot and picked up some Mahar tribesmen. They also registered an FIR against 15 people.
TWO BROTHERS KILLED: The alleged killers of two brothers who were shot dead on Tuesday morning in Mirpur Mathelo are still at large.
The villagers blocked the National Highway near the town for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, demanding arrest of the accused.
The DPO of Ghotki transferred Mirpur Mathelo SHO Aijaz Hussain and posted Mohammad Hussain Langah as the new SHO with the orders to arrest the killers in 48 hours.
KIDNAPPED: A gold smith, Mohammad Siddiq Rajput, resident of Sadiqabad, was kidnapped by armed bandits in Pano Aqil along with gold ornaments worth Rs100,000.
Later, the police recovered Mr Rajput in unconscious condition from a deserted place in Pano Aqil with marks of blood on his legs.
