ISLAMABAD, Aug 3: With the monsoon rains picking up momentum and more showers expected in different areas of the country during the current month, the people are in for troubled times ahead.
There was not much rain in Islamabad on Saturday, however, a brief but heavy rain spell in Rawalpindi caused prolonged traffic jams on the busy Murree Road.
The traffic signals stopped working, while the traffic police personnel took cover as they were not properly equipped to perform their duties in rain.
Iesco is still struggling to maintain a steady power supply to the twin cities, but it is quite evident that it is mainly focusing on ‘sensitive parts’ of the federal capital and the Rawalpindi Cantonment.
For the residents of suburban areas, specially the model towns, it is altogether a different story, as the power supply is suspended with the start of rain and restored only after it has stopped raining.
