MULTAN, Aug 3: PML-N acting president Makhdoom Javed Hashmi has demanded trial of all what he termed military adventurers who toppled elected governments to usurp power.

Speaking at a press conference here on Sunday, he said parliament should hold the adventurers responsible for time and again derailment of democracy in the country and lodge cases for trampling constitution against all of them whether dead or alive.

He said: “This is necessary to discourage the adventurers-in-waiting to save the future of democracy.” He said whenever got a chance, the PML-N would brought all characters of Oct 12 coup to the court, including Gen Musharraf, Gen Aziz, Gen Mahmood (retired) and Gen Usmani (retired).

He said his party did not accept Gen Musharraf as president. He said the leadership of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal thought that by giving one more year to the general in uniform, it could manage to keep the democratic setup intact. But, he said, the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy thought Musharraf was an usurper of the constitution.

He alleged that all frontiers of the country had become unsafe in the reign of Gen Musharraf, “but the generals were busy in plundering the national wealth”. He said more time to the general would amount to stamp his faulty policies to continue.

The PML-N leader expressed good wishes for MMA’s endeavour to run the system, but claimed “our’s is a people’s stand based on principles”
