SIALKOT, Aug 3: Nullah Dek has overflowed in Narowal, Shakargarh and Pasrur tehsils and flooded more than 25 villages and thousands of acres of standing crops.

According to official sources, Nullah Dek was in high flood after heavy rains in Sialkot and Narowal districts and all catchment areas of occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The affected villages include Khokhar, Hunjali, Dawaar, Nangal, Eesapur, Chichar, Chahoor Kahluan, Seehowal, Shehzada and Bhaag. Dozens more are surrounded by water. People have started shifting to safer places.

Sialkot district Nazim Naeem Javaid told newsmen that the Chenab, Jammu and Ravi rivers were in high flood, and the water level was still increasing in all rivers and Nullahs. However, he added, the departments concerned were on high alert and the situation was under control.

Seventeen buffaloes of Muradpur landlord Ramzan Gujjar drowned in Nullah Palkhu, which passes through the northern parts of Sialkot city.

Meanwhile, Sialkot and Narowal districts received heavy rain on Sunday. The rainfall started early in the morning and continued till the evening, leaving all low-lying areas inundated.

Sialkot Met officials have forecast more heavy rains in both Sialkot and Narowal districts and in all catchment areas of occupied Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

COMPENSATION: Punjab Industries Minister Ajmal Cheema said on Sunday that a bridge would be constructed over the river Tavi.

The minister said this while announcing an assistance of Rs100,000 each for the

heirs of the three people who lost their lives when a boat capsized in the river Tavi on Friday.

He said the government had decided to construct a bridge over river Tavi at a cost of Rs170 million, and all paper work in this regard had been completed.

He directed the authorities concerned to provide two motor boats to Bajwat area people to cross the river.

SUICIDE: Two sisters, Sadaf (18) and Falak (16), committed suicide by taking poisonous pills over a domestic dispute in Bhadeywala, Daska tehsil, on Saturday evening. Bambanwala police are investigating.
