Church of Pakistan gets new head

PESHAWAR: Humphrey Sarfaraz Peters, Bishop of KP and Fata, was on Saturday elected as the new head of the Church of Pakistan.

The Syond (supreme body) of the Church of Pakistan in its 15th triennial meeting elected the new head.

According to a statement issued here on Saturday, the triennial meeting of the Syond was held in Lahore.

The Church of Pakistan is the union of the Anglicans, Methodists, Presbyterians and the Lutherans who pledged in 1970 to be united and as a result the Church of Pakistan was established.

It has eight Dioceses led by eight bishops covering the entire country from Karachi to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Diocese of Peshawar is one of the eight Dioceses created in 1980.

This is the first time in 37 years of the creation of the Diocese of Peshawar that the position of the head of the Church of Pakistan has come to KP.
