MITHI: Dist Nazim feels ignored by DCO

MITHI, Aug 3: District Nazim Arbab Attaullah has urged the the federal and Sindh governments to take notice of non- cooperative attitude of Tharparkar DCO Allah Warayo Mallah towards him.

In a letter addressed to the Sindh chief secretary and its copies sent to the president and prime minister, the Nazim stated that relief operations in his rain-affected district were supposed to be launched through his office but the DCO had initiated relief activities without consulting him.

The Nazim said that the DCO was exercising powers beyond his authority and sarcastically added therefore the official should be appointed the district Nazim.

He demanded that an appropriate action should be taken against the DCO.

When contacted, MNA Arbab Zakaullah, MPAs Abdul Razzaq Rahimoon and Rajvir Singh and other members of the relief committee constituted by the DCO said that the DCO had spent Rs2.2 million on relief operation without consulting them.

Meanwhile, the district Nazim sent another letter to the president, prime minister, Sindh chief secretary and other authorities, urging them to declare Tharparkar district a calamity-hit area.

He demanded urgent supply of food, medicines, tents and other essential items for the rain victims should be ensured.

He said that the rains damaged the roads, electricity, telephone and crops and thousands of families rendered homeless were living on sandy dunes or in relief camps.

DCO: The district administration has received Rs2.5 million out of Rs5 million announced by the Sindh chief minister for relief operation.

This was stated by the DCO while speaking at a news conference here on Sunday.
