KARACHI, Aug 3: The coordination committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement has appealed to the people of Sindh, especially philanthropists, to provide maximum possible relief goods and donations to the MQM’s relief camps for the rehabilitation of those affected by rains and floods.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, the committee pointed out that while scores of people lost their lives, hundreds of thousands of others had been rendered homeless by the natural calamity in Sindh. It said that the rains and floods had also inflicted a heavy loss of property on the helpless people as countless villages had been inundated.

In this hour of trial and tribulation, it added, it was everybody’s religious obligation to come forward and donate generously in cash and kind to the relief funds.

According to the statement, on the MQM chief Altaf Hussain’s directive,the committee had set up camps in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Sanghar, Khairpur, Larkana, Dadu and far flung areas of Sindh where food, medicine and other relief goods were being provided to the affected people. The senior deputy convener of the coordination committee, Dr Farooq Sattar, deputy convener Nasreen Jalil and provincial minister Shoaib Bokhari visited camps set up by the MQM workers at different schools and supervised collection and onward supply of relief goods.
