LAHORE, Jan 3: Minority councillors have rejected the offer of District Nazim Mian Aamir Mahmood to accept development grants of Rs1 million each from his discretionary quota.

Instead, they demanded allocation of 5 per cent of the development budget for them.

The minority members of the Lahore District Council voiced the demand at a meeting of the 66 councillors representing special interest groups convened at the Jinnah Hall here on Thursday. They were asked to identify the development schemes of their choice for the utilization of the grant sanctioned by the Nazim who was present there.

The councillors representing the women, farmers and workers identified the development schemes of their choice. The councillors representing the minorities insisted that the Nazim should allocate 5 per cent budgetary quota for them in accordance with the rules.

District Naib Nazim Farooq Amjad Mir presided over the meeting.
