LAHORE, Jan 3: An accountability court on Thursday framed charges against Ch Abdul Majid, ex-MPA, and his son Shahid Mahmood in a reference on alleged misappropriation of cooperative funds.
The court fixed Jan 10 for recording of evidence from prosecution side.
Ch Abdul Majid and Shahid Mahmood, while holding as chairman and vice-chairman of NICCC, are alleged to have committed malpractice during a sale-purchase transaction of land measuring 729 kanals near Jallo Park, Lahore. The amount involved in the said transaction was placed by NAB at over Rs 40 million, including the amount of mark-up.
Another court which sentenced in absentia a former member of the National Assembly, Ch Akhtar Ali Vario, proceeded with the NAB application which prayed the court to attach the assets of convict. Case was adjourned till Jan 16 for further orders. Akhtar Ali Vario who is alleged to have failed to attend the investigation was sentenced to three years RI.
In another reference against former parliamentary secretary Rana Tanvir Hussain, the court recorded statements of four defence witnesses and adjourned its hearing till Jan 8.
Hearing of a reference against Hakim Ali Zardari, father-in-law of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, could not proceed on Thursday as the defence counsel was not present in the court.
