Heaps of garbage all around

FAISALABAD, Aug 2: The cleanliness system in the city has become inoperative as to the result of the negligence of the Tehsil Municipal Administration (City).

During a round of the city localities here on Thursday, heaps of garbage were seen along roadsides and in the streets of commercial areas.

Main shopping centres of Kutchery Bazaar, Jhang Bazaar, Bhawana Bazaar, Rail Bazaar, Chiniot Bazaar, Satiana Road, D-Grounds, and other city areas have become ‘filth-depots’ as the TMA’s sanitary staff did not turn up for the last many days.

The stink emitting from heaps of garbage is spreading serious epidemics among the people.

Shopkeepers told this correspondent that they were paying Rs10 to Rs20 weekly to the sanitary staff for lifting the garbage. They blamed that an army of sanitary workers had been deputed at the houses of Nazims of Union Councils and bureaucracy.

A huge amount was being embezzled by TMA bosses on account of salaries of temporary sanitary workers, they further alleged.
