Misbah not offered match-referee’s post by PCB: Shaharyar

LAHORE: Repudiating reports that the Board has recommended Test captian Misbah-ul-Haq for the post of ICC match-referee, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan has said that the Board has never made such offer to the outgoing Test captain.

The chairman said that the outgoing captain was never offered any post, stating that it all depended on Misbah as to what kind of role he sought in Pakistan cricket after his retirement following the final Test against the West Indies.

While talking to Dawn here on Saturday, the PCB chairman rubbished the reports that the name of the outgoing Test captain was recommended for the post of ICC match-referee.

“It is Misbah who will decide what kind of role he would like to seek after his retirement and if he wants the post of the ICC match-referee, the PCB could recommend his name but it is up to the ICC whether it accepts his name for the said post,” maintained the chairman.

No Pakistani has been able to make it to the ICC match-referees’ panel after the death of former all-rounder Wasim Raja in 2006. The PCB has already recommended two names for the supplementary ICC panel of referees four months back but any name is yet to be finalised.

On the other hand, the PCB chairman said both Misbah and Younis Khan have rendered great services for Pakistan cricket and deserved a happy send-off from the PCB, adding the Board would hold a meeting with both the outgoing cricketers at the end of the West Indies tour to find their views about their future roles.
