LAHORE, Aug 2: River Indus was in medium flood at Guddu and in low flood at all other sites while Chenab was in low flood at Khanki and Qadirabad on Saturday.

All other rivers were flowing normal.

According to a Flood Forecasting Division’s report, Indus was rising at Guddu and Chashma, steady at Tarbela, Sukkur and Kotri and falling at Kalabagh. Chenab was receding at Khanki and Qadirabad.

During the last 24 hours, the met office received reports of scattered rain of light to moderate intensity with heavy falls at one or two places in the upper catchments of rivers Chenab and Jhelum besides Kohat, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Lahore and Kalat divisions.

Light to moderate rain with heavy falls occurred at one or two places over Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan, Hyderabad and Karachi divisions. Isolated rain was also reported from Peshawar division.

Weather experts says a westerly wave is moving across north of Afghanistan and adjoining Malakand division while a seasonal low lies over southern Iran and adjoining Balochistan.

The monsoon current reaching Punjab from Arabian Sea may cause scattered rain of light to moderate intensity with heavy falls at one or two places over the upper catchments of all the major rivers along with northern, northeastern and central Punjab and over Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat and Dera Ismail Khan divisions.

Isolated rain of light to moderate intensity may fall over Dera Ghazi Khan, Kalat divisions, northern Balochistan and Makran coast.

DAMS: Both Tarbela and Mangla have risen by one feet each during the last 24 hours with Tarbela touching mark of 1,537 feet against its maximum conservation level of 1,550 feet and Mangla rising to 1201.10 feet just five feet below its maximum conservation capacity.—APP
