Water level rises in Khanpur Dam

HARIPUR, Aug 1: Khanpur dam’s water level has sharply risen, officials said on Friday.

The level was increasing due to continuing wet spell in the catchment area in Hazara, officials said.

Khanpur dam is the third water reservoir in the Haripur district. The other two are Tarbela and Ghazi Barotha.

The Khanpur dam administration, however, did not feel the need to open the spillways to release extra water accumulated in the dam.

HARIPUR-TAXILA ROAD: The Haripur-Taxila road would be redesigned to bear the load of vehicular traffic before resumption of construction work on the project, sources told Dawn here.

The contract for construction of the road was awarded to the Frontier Works Organization (FWO). The road soon began developing cracks and potholes because substandard material had been used in the its construction. Sources said that the FWO had conducted an inquiry into the matter and decided to redesign the road.
