KARACHI, July 31: Pakistan’s fast-rising short corner specialist Mohammad Imran once again proved his mettle during the national juniors ongoing tour of Europe when he flicked in four goals in his team’s two back-to-back victories over Spain in Barcelona.
According to information made available though Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) sources on Thursday, Imran scored two goals each in Pakistan’s wins over Spainish Juniors on Wednesday and Thursday.
Pakistan defeated Spain 4-2 in the match played on Wednesday followed by a 5-2 victory in the second on Thursday.
In the first match, it was the exploits of Imran that helped Pakistan beat Spain 4-2. Strikers M. Arif and Akhtar Ali scored one goal each in the match.
In the next matched played on Thursday, Pakistan once again showed their superiority in the short corner conversion department when they scored three goals off penalty corners in a 5-2 victory.
Imran, once again scored two goals, while the third short corner goal was scored by mid-fielder M. Khalid. Shabbir Ahmed and Akhter Ali scored once each through field attempts to complete the morale-boosting victory.
During the first leg of their five-week tour, the Pakistanis appeared in a four-nation junior tournament at Alcala Real (Spain) from July 24 to 27. They finished second behind Germany and ahead of giants Spain and Holland in the quadrangular event.
The Pakistan Juniors are now scheduled to move to Paris from Barcelona to play a couple of practice matches against local French clubs.
