Four killed as 22-wheeler collides with another vehicle near Abbottabad

In a tragic accident near Havelian in the early hours of Saturday, a speeding 22-wheeler enroute to Rawalpindi collided with another going in the opposite direction. The collision enveloped two other cars and a Suzuki van, resulting in four deaths and 12 injuries.

The accident took place on a turn, locally referred to as Langra More, on the Karakoram Highway.

Rescue 1122 and the area police reached the spot and began rescue work, DSP Havelian Khursheed Tanoli told DawnNews.

Five of the injured were shifted to the Rural Health Centre Havelian, while three others were taken to the District Headquarter Hospital Abbottabad and four to Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad.

Tanoli, who is supervising the rescue work, said wreckage of the damaged vehicles had been removed and traffic had been restored.

Tanoli said it would be premature to say exactly what may have caused the accident, but bystanders and witnesses speculate that the vehicle going from Abbottabad to Rawalpindi may have developed a technical fault, causing it to ram into the other.

It must be noted that there are no operational street lights or fish-eye mirrors on the turning where the accident took place.

As per hospital sources in Abbottabad, where most of the injured were taken, the condition of three of the injured victims is critical.
