OKARA, July 30: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has constituted an eight-member committee to probe the murder of Father George Ibrahim.
The committee will submit its report to the chief minister within a week.
It is learnt that a delegation of Christian Fathers across the Punjab called on the Punjab chief minister. Provincial Law Minister Raja Muhammad Basharat was also present on the occasion.
Members of the delegation apprised the chief minister of the details of the tragic incident of July 5 in which Father George Ibrahim was killed. After listening to their grievances, the chief minister formulated the committee under the leadership of Bishop Joseph Kotes. The other members are Fr Samson, Fr Khalid Rashid, Fr James, Maj Javed Rehmatullah (retired) and MPAs Joseph Hakim Din, Shahzad Elahi and Aamir Sahotra.
The chief minister assured the delegation that police officials showing negligence would be dismissed from the service.
It is learnt that Sheikhupura range DIG Tariq Saleem Dogar will visit Renal Khurd on Thursday (today) in connection with the investigation of the case.
TWO KILLED: Two persons were killed in different incidents here on Wednesday.
A speeding bus (LSC-876) hit a bicyclist, Zakir Hussain (16) of Kot Liaquat Hayat, on the GT Road near Jamia Hanfia Darul Aloom Ashraful Madaris. He died on the spot.
Ashraf of Chak 14/GD was going to Chak 19/1-R by bus (SL-5342). Ashraf, standing near the gate, fell down on the road from the moving bus when it took a sharp turn. He sustained critical head injuries and died instantly.
Police have registered separate cases.
CASES: Around nine policemen, including an SHO of Shahobore police station, were booked on the orders of the district and sessions judge for keeping nine men of Chaks 42/43/4-L in illegal detention.
SHO Muhammad Afzal Khan, SI Zafar, ASIs Liaquat Ali and Altaf, constable Shafi, driver Anwar and police volunteers Amin, Zafar Raza, Hashim Raza along with four unidentified men raided the village and arrested Shaukat, Niaz, Intizar, Akram, Abbas, Noor Samand, Mehboob, Maqbool and Liaquat Ali. They also misbehaved with the women and tortured all of them in the police station.
At this, the villagers took out a protest procession against the illegal detention and highhandedness of the police. Later, the victims moved court for the registration of a case against the policemen.
BOOKED: The chief editor of a local daily was booked by Deepalpur police in two cases for advancing bogus cheques worth Rs417,000 and Rs170,000 to Muhammad Sarfraz and Tayyab Zaid Awan, respectively, of Awan Kalam village.
