NAB rejects Raisani's plea bargain appeal in Balochistan mega corruption scandal

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday cancelled the plea bargain application submitted by the key accused in Balochistan mega corruption scandal, former secretary finance Mushtaq Raisani.

This decision was made during a meeting presided by NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman.

It is pertinent to mention that Raisani’s plea bargain application was previously approved by the NAB chairman in the first week of January.

Along with Raisani, NAB had decided to accept the plea bargain request of Sohail Majeed Shah, the contractor and frontman of Khalid Langove, the former adviser to chief minister Balochistan for finance.

The accountability court directed NAB authorities to share all information about the recovery of properties from the accused with governments of Balochistan and Sindh.

Judge Abdul Majeed Nasar at the accountability court issued notices to the chief secretaries of of the two provinces to support NAB with its investigation.

He also directed the two provincial governments to inform the court with details if the properties recovered from Raisani are auctioned off.

According to the application, on May 6, 2016 NAB recovered 2.7 kilogrammes of gold, more than 2.3 million US dollars, 15,000 pounds and 16,010 Saudi riyals from Raisani's residence.

The Accountability Court in Quetta conducted the hearing of Balochistan mega corruption scandal on Tuesday. The two former secretaries of local government department also appeared before the court during the proceedings.

The cancellation order with regard to plea bargain of former secretary finance Mushtaq Raisani was presented before the court, NAB officials said.NAB had arrested the former secretary finance and key accused of Balochistan mega corruption scandal on May 6 last year.

The counsel for Mushtaq Raisani and contractor Sohail Majeed had completed their arguments with regard to the case.

NAB had already arrested former adviser to the Balochistan chief minister on finance Mir Khalid Langove in the mega corruption scandal.
