US holding more than 220 detainees

WASHINGTON, Jan 3: US forces in Afghanistan are now holding more than 220 members of the former Taliban regime and the al-Qaeda network, the US Defence Department said on Wednesday.

“We’re currently holding approximately 221,” a Pentagon spokesman said. CNN had earlier reported that several of the prisoners had studied in the United States.—dpa
