JHANG, July 28: An unidentified man was killed and five others injured in a blast in a shop in Jogianwala locality, Jhang Saddar, on Monday.

Mehr Sikandar Mighiana, the father of Advocate Kashif Mighiana, had rented one of his two shops, adjacent to his house to Malik Jamaluddin. The other shop was lying vacant.

At about 11:45am three unidentified pathans entered Jamal’s shop and expressed the desire to get the shop on rent. Negotiations were still on when at about 12:15pm, there was a huge blast, which destroyed both the shops. The body of one of the pathans was torn to pieces, while the other two pathans were seen fleeing from the scene with injuries. Five people present in the shop, Jamal, his son Mustafa, and Usman, Shabbir and Shan sustained injuries. They were taken to hospital where they were stated to be out of danger.

There was some damage caused to the house of Mighiana, but there were no causalities inside the house, as the Mighiana family had gone to attend some function and there was nobody inside the house.

Police suspected that the man killed in the blast was a terrorist and was carrying explosives to be planted somewhere else, but it went off accidentally.

A police source later told this correspondent that from the evidence collected from the spot, it was confirmed that the blast was caused by a locally made time device.

It may be noted that an imambargah is situated at a distance of 250 yards from the site.

The identity of the dead man and his accomplices could not be ascertained.
