SIALKOT, July 28: Lahore High Court registrar Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad along with two judicial officers visited the Sialkot District Jail on Monday to probe Friday’s hostage-taking which ended in the killing of three judges and five convicts.
The team also met Sialkot district and sessions judge Ch Zafar Hussain, who had led the judges to the jail on monthly inspection.
It also heard Sialkot District Bar Association president Munawar Hussain Warraich and general secretary Shamshad Ahmad Bajwa.
In jail, the LHC team examined the barrack where the shootout took place besides recording the statements of various male and female prisoners and jail authorities.
According to APP, acting IG (Jail) Sarfraz Ahmad Mufti, jail superintendent Shaukat Feroze and the deputy superintendent also accompanied the team.
Later, the registrar called a number of jailers and prisoners one by one in the office of the jail superintendent.
The registrar will submit his findings to the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court.
CMIT: A three-member committee constituted by the chief minister continued for the second consecutive day on Monday its probe into the jail episode
Chief Minister Inspection Team chairman Lt-Col Tariq Saadat (retired) who is heading the committee told APP by phone that he along with other members, Sohail Humayoon and Fazeel Asghar, had recorded the statements of certain officials involved in the operation.
On Sunday, the team had visited the district jail.
IGP TEAM: The inspector general of police, Punjab, Syed Masood Shah has also constituted an inquiry committee headed by Saadatullah Khan, additional IG, special branch, Punjab, and comprising Col Waqar Burhan, commandant, Elite Police School, Lahore, and Muhammad Farooq Mazhar, SP, special branch, Gujranwala.
According to official sources, the committee will try to go into details of the police operation.
It will submit its report to the IGP within the next two days, sources said.
CM BRIEFED: Sialkot District Nazim Mian Naeem Javaid and CMIT officials briefed the chief minister on the jail tragedy during his visit to Shakargarh (Narowal) on Monday afternoon.
