KARACHI, July 28: Rain has completely destroyed the roads in Baldia town, causing problems for the residents.
Baldia town, one of the most backward areas of the city, consists mostly of slum localities existing without any proper drainage system. As a result, rain water accumulates on the roads, causing health hazards for the people residing in the area.
The situation further aggravated last week when the town received a fresh spell of rain for three consecutive days.
The worst affected roads include Mohajir Camp No.4 leading to 19-D, Gulshan Ghazi Chowk to Saeedabad No.9 and Ittehad town road.
Most of these roads have been completely damaged, resulting in total disappearance of carpeting on the roads, posing problems for vehicular traffic and the pedestrians.
One of the reasons for the destruction of roads is improper planning at the time of their construction.
The situation in areas like Ittehad town, Saeedabad No.12, Qaimkahni colony, Raja Tanveer colony, Muhammad Khan colony, Gulshan-e-Ghazi, and Dawood Goth is even worse as there is no sewerage line to drain out rain water.
Talking to newsmen the residents complained about apathy of the elected representatives towards the general issues.
One person told PPI that instead of being a divine blessing, rain had turned into a curse.
When Town Nazim Aurangzaib Khan Bonari was approached to get his view on the prevailing condition in the area, he admitted that most of the roads had been damaged.
However, he said, the administration would do its best to repair the roads once the monsoon ended.—PPI
