KARACHI, July 27: The recently revived Sindh Cricket Association (SCA) has been given the responsibility of organising international matches in Karachi instead of Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA).
Chairman, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Lt Gen Tauqir Zia told the delegates during his meetings with SCA and KCCA top officials at National Stadium Karachi (NSK) on Sunday.
The PCB chief informed the officials that as per new system, KCCA would be affiliated with SCA and provincial associations with be directly affiliated with PCB.
He told the city association that the objective behind the constituting the provincial set up was to promote the game in the respective provinces and not to undermine or challenge the authority city or district association. During the coming 2003-04 international season, both Bangladesh and South Africa will be playing a Test match and one One-day International each at NSK.
The holding of international matches for the provincial association will be a huge task for the revived SCA considering the experience of the KCCA and lack of manpower in the SCA. The PCB will release an amount of Rs one million to SCA to run its affairs.
KCCA president Munir Hussain told PCB boss that because of the forthcoming KCCA centenary celebrations, KCCA can not vacate its offices till Jan-Feb at NSK for which the permission was granted.
SCA delegation was headed by Former Test off-spinner and ex-chief selector Hasib Ahsan and included senior vice-president, Dr Mohammad Ali Shah, newly inducted vice-president Makhdoom Rafiq-uz-Zaman and secretary Aslam Sanjrani.
KCCA delegation included Munir Hussain and Syed Sirajul Islam Bukhari.
VISITS CCC NETS: Tauqir also visited Cricket Coaching Centre (CCC) run by former first-class cricketer Ahmed Mustafa and inspected the nets at the National stadium.
The PCB has allowed the CCC to use their nets for the training and coaching of teenage cricketers and now the PCB chief has also allowed the use of PCB regional cricket ground once in a week for CCC matches.
He praised the contribution of Ahmed Mustafa in the coaching and grooming of youngsters. It may be mentioned here that the CCC is the only coaching centre which is providing free coaching to the youngsters.
Test batsman Faisal Iqbal is one of the most prominent product of the CCC.—APP
