Case against ETO

RAHIM YAR KHAN, July 27: The Anti-Corruption Establishment registered a case against an ETO for ‘misplacing’ registration documents of vehicles from the district excise and taxation office.

A landlord, Mian Muhammad Bakhsh, submitted papers of his newly-bought car for registration book which were allegedly ‘misplaced’ by ETO Shakeelur Rehman. He repeatedly went to the excise and taxation office to get his registration book, but to no avail. Instead the ETO told him that his papers had been ‘lost’ and that he was ready to buy his car in penalty. Disappointed as he was, Mian Bukhsh sold his car to the ETO at Rs1.1 million.

Similarly, Zahid of Shabbir Colony had also submitted his papers to the excise office for the registration book of his new car some 10 months ago. For this purpose, ETO Shakeel received from him Rs7,800, including Rs2,000 for a special number.

He was allotted the number 34. For getting his registration documents, Zahid was asked to collect these after a week. He had gone to receive his documents several occasions after that, but the ETO started delaying tactics on one pretext or the other.

After about 10 months of his unfruitful efforts, Zahid reported the matter to the Multan Anti-Corruption deputy director on whose orders a case has been registered against the ETO.

It is learnt that the original registration documents of the newly-bought vehicles are sold to car-lifters at handsome amount by corrupt officials of the Excise and Taxation office.
