FAISALABAD, July 27: The Gulfishan Colony police allegedly tortured to death a man here on Saturday night.
Sources said Mohammad Husain (38) of Sargodha had tried to encash some stolen saving certificates from a centre on Jhang Road. The employees on duty at the National Saving Centre overpowered him and handed him over to the area police. He died at the police post after being subjected to physical torture.
However, the police claimed that some of the people at the saving centre had beaten up the accused, who was provided six pain-killing tablets, which he took at once and fell unconscious in the lock-up. The police shifted him to the Allied Hospital, where he breathed his last.
Relatives of the deceased termed the police claim false, saying there were signs on the body indicating that Mr Hussain was tortured to death by the police, who had apparently been trying to force him to confess to a crime that he did not commit.
TWO ACTRESSES BOOKED: The Gulberg police have booked two actresses on charges of staging a performance scantily-clad, acting on the report of a sub-inspector of the Security Branch.
The actresses, Nadia Ali and Rukhsar, were performing in a drama at Bambeeno Cinema. However, no arrest has been made so far.
