Athletes return after winning 16 medals at Special Olympics World Winter Games

The contingent representing Pakistan at the Special Olympic Winter Games beamed with pride as they arrived in Islamabad on Sunday .

"Medals, medals, medals and success," said Shumaila Erum, while speaking to DawnNews at Islamabad Airport regarding the success of Pakistani Athletes she had coached and accompanied to Austria for the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017.

The group of athletes representing Pakistan were welcomed home by relatives and loved ones.

Wearing their medals around their necks and smiling for the cameras, the athletes' joy and excitement on returning home after a brilliant performance was evident.

"The team has come back to their home with 16 medals and a lot of pride," Erum added.

"I hope that the people in our society celebrate the success of these athletes in a fitting manner. We work with their abilities, not their disabilities," she said.

As they arrived at Islamabad airport, the athletes expressed pride and happiness at having represented their country well in the games, where over 3,000 athletes from 110 countries had participated.

"It feels so good, we have brought pride to our country," one athlete said as he thanked his parents and loved ones for their support.

The contingent has returned to Pakistan with an impressive tally of 16 medals, which included three gold, seven silver and six bronze medals.
