Alamshar follows Shergar

ASCOT (England), July 26: Irish Derby winner Alamshar, ridden by Johnny Murtagh, galloped to glory in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes on Saturday.

The 13-2 chance raced in second for much of the way before taking command in the short straight and readily held off 9-2 chance Sulamani, the mount of Frankie Dettori, by three and a half lengths.

Third place in the 12-strong field went to English Derby winner Kris Kin, the 7-2 second favourite ridden by Kieren Fallon.

Alamshar, trained by John Oxx, is owned by the Aga Khan who won the King George in 1981 with Shergar.
