QUETTA, July 26: Afghan forces fired three rockets and two mortar shells at a Pakistani border post near Chaman on Saturday night.
“Three rockets and two mortar shells landed and exploded with brief intervals near the Frontier Corps’ Shaukat post,” a border security official confirmed over telephone.
No one was wounded in the attack, he said.
After the firing from the Spin Buldak area of Afghanistan, the border security forces were put on high alert. However, they did not retaliate.
Sources said that the first rocket exploded near the Shaukat post at around 8.15pm and slightly damaged a wall. After some time, two rockets and two mortar shells landed in the open area.
Pakistani security authorities contacted the administrative officer of Spin Buldak, Syed Fazaluddin Agha, and lodged protest over the attack.
They said the Pakistani forces had not retaliated but they would use force if such an incident occurred in the future.
Sources said the Afghan official apologized and said no such incident would occur in the future.
When contacted over telephone, he said the attack was the result of a misunderstanding.
He said the officials responsible for the incident would face action.
