Heer reciting competition

SHEIKHUPURA, July 26: The Heer recitation competition in connection with Waris Shahs’s Urs concluded at 3am on Saturday when prizes were distributed among the first, second and third position holders.

The first position was bagged by Sadiq Sulery of Sialkot, second by Prof Arshad of Raiwind, and third by Irdis Muhammad of Mandi Faizabad, Sheikhupura district. They were given Rs10,000, 7,000 and 4,000 respectively.

Raishman, Abid Bela, Jat brothers and other folk singers also enthralled the devotees who had come from all over Pakistan, India and other countries.

Fazal Jat and Durdana Butt received a loud applaud from the audience for their performance in play Heer, Ranjha.

Folk Singer Raishman said it was great honour for her to perform on the Urs of Waris Shah.

WELCOMED: Chaudhry Saeed Ahmad Virk was awarded a warm welcome on his first visit to the city on Saturday after being appointed federal parliamentary secretary.

Speaking at a meeting at Pir Babar Shah Chowk, Mr Virk said that the PML-Q government ensure sewerage, drainage, drinking water and health facilities to all citizens.
