HYDERABAD, July 26: Latifabad Taluka Nazim Abdul Jabbar Khan has demanded early completion of the Greater Hyderabad Sewerage Project, saying that its incompletion since 1987 is leading to collapse of sewerage system in his area.
He said that in the aftermath of incessant rains in the city, it had become impossible for his taluka council to cope with the drainage problem.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, he said that the work on the sewerage scheme was launched 16 years back with joint financing of the Islamic Development Bank and the Sindh government but it was still lying incomplete.
He said that the worsening problem of sewerage disposal particularly in the Latifabad taluka was largely due to incompletion of the project.
The taluka Nazim said that the pumping stations established under the project were of no use unless deep sewers were laid.
He claimed that people of Latifabad could only be provided relief after the project was completed as the existing sewerage system could not match the needs of the city populace which had increased over the years.
