PESHAWAR, July 26: A leader of Pakistan People’s Party-S and MPA, Sikander Sherpao, has expressed concern over the decision of German development financing institution to dispose of its equity share in the Bank of Khyber and the suspension of the United Nations operation in the NWFP.
In a press statement issued here on Saturday, he said it would serve as a serious blow to the interests of the province.
Mr Sherpao regretted that the “interference” of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government in the affairs of the BoK had forced the German government to pull out its 13 per cent equity share from the only bank of the province, which would put further financial constraint on the provincial kitty.
He said the policies adopted by the MMA government had shattered the confidence of international donors, dwindling the opportunities of investment in the province.
He resented that the World Bank and the German technical agency had already suspended their assistance after smashing of billboards “by the Jamaat-i-Islami workers.”
