The city government has taken preventive measures for the safety of picnickers visiting beaches on Sunday, adds APP.

According to a city government announcement, five mobile vans, equipped with first-aid facilities, have been deployed for coastal areas of Hawkesbay.

These vans will also be fitted with loud-speakers for making announcements and issuing warnings to people attempting to go deeper into the sea.

The city Nazim has already imposed Section 144 CrPC banning bathing in the sea which will be a cognizable offence. He asked the people residing near drains and nullahs not to allow their children to go closer to nullahs as rains could bring flash floods any time which could pose a threat to the lives of children.

He advised the people not to touch electric wires which sometimes get snapped during the rains.

Meanwhile, after reports of flooding of Malir river and threat of a flash flood, the city government sent personnel of fire brigade, civil defence volunteers and divers to Zaman Town and other low-lying localities as a preventive measure. They would be on alert to carry out any rescue or relief work in the wake of an emergency.

In order to ensure draining out the water on Sharea Faisal, the health department has divided the Sharea into various sections and started draining out water on an emergency basis.

GOVERNOR: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Saturday asked the concerned agencies that while constructing roads or carrying out their re-carpeting or renovation, it should be ensured that the rainwater and sewage do not stay on roads.

The governor was presiding over a meeting summoned to review the arrangements for draining out rainwater and for taking stock of the relief measures taken for the effected people.

The governor expressed concern over not keeping the provision for draining out rainwater while planning or designing roads in the city. This was the main cause of inconvenience to people and also hinders smooth traffic flow, besides causing huge losses to the national exchequer, he said.

District Coordination Officer Mir Hussain Ali informed the meeting that the carpeting and repair of roads had been suspended because of the monsoon rains. He said necessary instructions had been issued to drain out the rainwater standing under flyovers.

The DIG Traffic, he said, had carried out a survey of roads and marked the places where rainwater had inundated roads.

The governor stressed the need for remaining alert as far as safety of picnickers at beaches is concerned, and water be drained out and traffic flow is not hampered.

He asked the people living in coastal areas to cooperate with the government regarding arrangements being taken for their safety in view of the possibility of a cyclone.

The meeting also exchanged views on the issues pertaining to Scheme-33 Gulistan-i-Hijri where allottees were facing hardships for want of development work.

The governor said that another meeting be convened with officials of the Board of Revenue and Cooperative Society to resolve the problems faced by the allottees in Scheme-33.

Present at the meeting were Provincial Minister of Local government Mohammad Hussain, DG Kachchi Abadis Tasneem Siddiqui, Secretary local government Mirza karim Baig, EDO (Works) Brig (Retd) Zaheer Qadri, chief controller of buildings Brig (Retd) A.S. Nasir and other officials concerned.
