KARACHI, July 25: Liaquatabad town Nazim has criticised the KBCA chief controller for interfering in the towns’ affairs, alleging that the KBCA’s campaign of cleaning storm water drains “smacks of a deep-rooted conspiracy”.
Quoting the KBCA’s letter (No KBCA/PS-CCOB/2003/361), whereby the KBCA chief controller has asked the town Nazims to launch a campaign for cleaning storm water drains, the Liaquatabad Town Nazim Dr Pervaiz Mehmood said that it was amazing to note that the chief controller, who, he claimed, did not consider the KBCA a part of the city government, was embarking upon those duties which come under the domain of the city government.
He said that all town administrations in the wake of monsoon had already declared emergency in their respective jurisdictions and were taking all possible measures to flush out the rainwater in drains, besides undertaking cleaning of storm water drains.
Dr Mehmood said that the KBCA chief should refrain from issuing directives to towns’ municipal officers without consulting the city Nazim, terming such acts ‘uncalled for interference’ in the affairs of the towns and the city government.
RESOLUTION: Korangi Town’s council on Friday termed the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) recent cleanliness campaign in Korangi ‘a violation of SLGO-2001, and a futile attempt to fail the city government’.
Accusing the Muttahida, its ministers and parliamentarians, of forcibly acquiring the Town’s machinery for the campaign, the council through a resolution demanded of the president, prime minister, Sindh governor, chief minister and chairman National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB) to immediately take notice of such interference in the Town’s affairs.
The resolution further said that the town administration, during last two years, had constructed and repaired a number of roads, provided street lights, developed a number of parks, but after the Oct 10 elections, activists belonging to the Muttahida were creating hindrances in the town’s development works.
