HYDERABAD, July 24: The third death anniversary of Alan Faqir, an exponent of Sindhi folk music, was observed at the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, on Wednesday.
The programme was organized by the university’s Institute of Sindhology in collaboration with the Alan Faqir Maddah Committee.
Paying tribute to the artist, Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, who was the chief guest, said Alan Faqir had introduced Sindhi folk music throughout the world.
Noted poet Imdad Hussaini said the late Faqir’s services to Sindh in the field of folk music could never be forgotten.
Short-story writer and Institute of Sindhology director Shaukat Hussain Shoro said the music and voice of Alan Faqir had been preserved by the institute through audio and video recording.
Renowned playwright Abdul Qadir Junejo said the artist had promoted poetry of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai and other poets of Sindh. A large number of fans of Alan Faqir, artists and students attended the programme.—Bureau
