PESHAWAR, July 24: The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) restricted movement of all its field units and mobile teams in the NWFP and adjacent tribal areas on Thursday after an attack on the World Health Organization vehicle here, officials said.
An official told Dawn that the UN refugee agency had suspended its activities in the region for an indefinite period and directed its repatriation staff and field units not to visit refugee camps till further order.
A vehicle of WHO came under attack in Patwarbala on the outskirts of Peshawar on Wednesday and two officials, including field officer Dr Qamar Zaman and his driver, escaped narrowly.
Mathra police station has registered an FIR against unidentified persons, but no arrest has been made, so far. The team was on its way to Mohmand Agency to administer polio drops in remote areas.
An official of the UNHCR Peshawar office said the attack on WHO vehicle prompted the refugee agency to suspend operations in the NWFP.
