KARACHI: A two-year-old boy died and six persons, including three women, were injured on Thursday when the roof of their dilapidated house in the old city area of Napier collapsed, according to police and a hospital official.

The roof of the two-storey building situated near Juman Shah Mazaar fell on the inmates at around 12 noon. Rescue teams rushed to the spot and retrieved the victims from under the rubble but two-year-old Adnan had died by then, said Napier SHO Azam Khan.

The officer added that the six victims, including three women, and the deceased were shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi.

Later, Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar during a visit to the site told area residents that he had ordered an inquiry into the incident.

He also went to the hospital to inquire after the health of the injured, says a statement.

Woman killed

The husband of a 30-year-old woman was booked for killing her at her brother’s residence in New Karachi Industrial Area on Wednesday night, police said.

Ms Zubaida was stabbed to death at her brother’s house in Sector 5G where she had shifted after developing differences with her husband, Alam, said SHO Waseem Ahmed.

The officer said Alam visited her when she was alone at home on Wednesday night and allegedly killed her before fleeing.

The SHO said that the police registered a murder case against Alam on the complaint of her brother. The victim was mother of two children, the officer added.

Fire in Uni Tower

The record of a cotton mill situated in Nooriabad was destroyed by a small fire that erupted in a third-floor office of Uni Tower on I.I. Chundrigar Road on Thursday afternoon, according to fire brigade and police officials.

The cause of the fire was stated to be short circuit. The blaze, which erupted at around 1:45pm, was controlled by 3pm, the officials said.

The fire destroyed papers kept at a shelf in the record room of the cotton mill office, said an official at the Mithadar police station.

Till Thursday evening, he added, nobody had approached the police for registration of a report of the incident.
