GUJRANWALA, Dec 30: Taking serious notice of complaints about defective construction of roads and other projects at Naushera Virkan, the National Reconstruction Bureau chairman has ordered an inquiry into the affairs.

The National Highway Authorities have also taken relevant record into custody on the NRB higher authorities’ orders, it is learnt on Tuesday.

Reports said the NRB media team visited Wazirabad and Naushera Virkan tehsils to review the ongoing construction work. District Nazim Fayyaz Ahmad Chattha and other senior officers briefed newsmen on the construction work.

Meanwhile, the residents of Naushera Virkan protested against defective construction of roads and other projects and demanded an inquiry against the contractors. The media team submitted the report to NRB chairman, who took strong notice and ordered an inquiry.

PROTEST: Activists of various religious parties, including the Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan, protested arrest of Jamiat Ahl-i-Sunnah provincial secretary and PML-Q Ulema-i-Mashaikh wing divisional president by Kotwali police in a false case, desecrating mosque and manhandling the faithful.

They demanded the higher-ups that the SHO concerned should be suspended from service immediately.

At a meeting held here on Tuesday, the participants said the Kotwali police SHO had arrested the two men without any justification and manhandled the faithful on their protest.

Later, the DPO got released both the religious leaders and ordered an inquiry against Kotwali SHO Malik Shabir Ahmad.

SHOT DEAD: A landlord and his aide were shot dead while four others were injured by their rivals at Alipur Chattha, on Tuesday.

Reports reaching here said Samunder Khan, the landlord, was present along with his men at his outhouse when Riasat Ali, Liaquat Ali and their accomplices came there and opened an indiscriminate.

As a result, the landlord and his aide Muhammad Irshad died on the spot while Pervaiz, Iqbal, Imran Butt and Shaher Abbas were injured. They were taken to the DHQ hospital in critical condition.

KILLED: Robbers on Tuesday shot dead a man and took away cash and other valuables from the house of a general councillor and a biscuit agency.

According to reports, seven armed men entered councillor Abdul Razzaq’s house, held up the inmates and took away Rs42,000 in cash, 64 tolas of gold ornaments, wristwatches and mobile phone sets.

Three robbers sneaked into an agency of biscuit at Model Town. They snatched Rs20,000 in cash from its owner Rizwan and fled. Meanwhile, three men shot dead a hotel owner’s nephew Yaqoob on resistance.

ARREST: The district police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested scores of revellers, who were making arrangements for celebrating the New Year night.

The police have seized liquor and illicit weapons in quantity from them during a grand operation.
