HYDERABAD: students hold demo

HYDERABAD, Dec 29: Students of the Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam, under the banner of Students’ Action Committee, staged a protest demonstration outside the press club on Monday against the alleged anti-education and anti-students polices of the vice-chancellor and key officials of the university.

Talking to newsmen, the action committee leaders accused the university administration of creating problems for the students.

They appealed to the Sindh governor to remove the inefficient university administration.

They were highly critical of the role of the controller of examinations and criticized the statement of the university spokesman that no problems existed and that only a few students were polluting the university atmosphere.

They also distributed a charter of demands containing 48 points.

MUET: The acting vice-chancellor of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Dr Abdul Ahad Abro, has urged the new comer students to concentrate their entire attention on academic and co-academic activities.

He was addressing fresh students of fourth-batch on the orientation day organized by the university on Monday.

He said the very purpose of the orientation was to acquaint students with the university atmosphere.

Mr Abro said the university would provide them conducive environment for their studies but it was entirely upto the students how to spend their time.

He said the university was determined to produce highly qualified professional engineers who could contribute to the development of the country.

He said the university would focus on quality education with the active involvement of students.
