SHIKARPUR, Dec 29: District police officer Arif Hanif, while supporting the Jirga system, has termed it a means of providing swift justice and stressed the need for early implementation of verdicts handed down by Jirgas.
Speaking at a press conference in his office on Monday, he pledged to curb terrorist and criminal activities to provide protection of life and property to people in the district as it was their fundamental right.
He said that in the name of tribal conflicts, professional criminals and terrorists were creating a law and order situation while protection to outlaws by influential people could not be ruled out as well, however, no one would be spared in this regard and peace and tranquillity would be ensured.
He appreciated the Jirga system for quick settlement of tribal disputes and was of the opinion that tribal chieftains should take keen interest in settling such disputes to avoid tribal clashes.
The DPO said that he had approached Mahar and Jatoi tribal heads in connection with settling the ongoing Mahar-Jatoi dispute and expressed hope that it would be settled soon.
