KARACHI: Two shot dead; two die in accidents

KARACHI, Dec 28: Two men were shot dead by unknown persons in different areas of the city early Sunday morning.

Police said that Intizar Ahmed, 38, was returning home from his shop in Liaquatabad when he was shot and seriously wounded by unknown persons in Block-2 of Azizabad near a flour mill. The victim suffered six bullet wounds and died in his way to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The victim was a resident of Dastigir.

In Kalakot area, a timekeeper of Hub Chowk bus terminus was shot dead. Police said that Ali Bukhsh, 30, was shot and injured by two unknown motorcyclists at his place of duty. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where he died under treatment, police added.

An FIR was lodged by the victim’s brother against unknown persons following the incident.

Later, some enraged people blocked the traffic, forcing shopkeepers to put down their shutters at Lea Market roundabout, Sheedi Village, Aaat Chowk and Chawkiwara Road.

ACCIDENTS: An elderly pedestrian died when he was hit by a police mobile on Gharibabad bridge Sunday evening.

Police said that Allah Rakha, 60, was knocked down to death while he was crossing the bridge. Just after the accident, the police mobile fled from the spot. Later, his body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy. The victim was a resident of Gharibabad.

Noor Shah was knocked down to death by a speeding vehicle near Sea Breeze building. His body was shifted to the Civil Hospital. The unknown vehicle escaped from the spot, police added.

SUICIDE: A young man committed suicide by consuming poison in Baloch Colony on Sunday.

Police said that Mohsin, 25, had consumed poison in his house in Baloch Colony. His body was shifted to the JPMC for postmortem examination. Police could not immediately ascertain the cause of the suicide.

DETAINED: Police have detained pop-singer, Ali Haider, along with a girl and a young man after a raid at an apartment in Defence on Sunday evening.

The Gizri police said that the Nazim UC-6 of Gulshan Town, Abdul Aziz Engineer, had complained the police on ‘15’ that some people were creating nuisance in his neighbourhood. Police raided the apartment and found the inmates in an indecent state, apparently under the influence of alcohol.

Town Police Officer Clifton Munir Ahmed Shaikh told Dawn that the three persons were taken to the JPMC for medical examination.

“If the medical report is positive, we will lodge a case. If it is reserved by the medicolegal officer, the three persons will go free on personal bail,” the TPO added.

Till filing of this report, the prominent singer and his two associates were in police custody.

CARJACKING: A total of 93 vehicles — 33 cars and 60 motorcycles — were taken away during the last one week in various parts of the metropolis.

According to the police statistics, nine cars were taken away at gunpoint by the bandits and 24 others were stolen in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Gulberg, Clifton, Jamshed Quarters, and Saddar.

Twenty six motorcycles were hijacked and 34 others were stolen in Gulberg, New Karachi, Korangi, Landhi, Lyari, North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Saddar, Gulshan-i-Iqbal and other areas.

Police claimed to have recovered 28 stolen cars and 24 motorcycles during the last one week.
