Clinton denies mediation

NEW YORK, Dec 27: Former US president Bill Clinton has denied that he is mediating between India and Pakistan on Kashmir.

According to a press release issued by his office in New York and faxed to Dawn, he said: “I am not mediating any disputes between India and Pakistan, nor have I been asked to play such a role in the region.”

He said his recent contacts with Indian Prime Minister Vajpayee and Pakistani President Musharraf grew out of his visit to India and the visit of his wife, Senator Clinton, to Pakistan.

He added: “I thanked President Musharraf for the hospitality he extended to Senator Clinton, and told him that I appreciated his work in conjunction with the Saarc summit in Islamabad next month, and his desire to resolve problems with India.
