PESHAWAR, Jan 2: The Afghanistan-Pakistan Peoples Friendship Association said on Wednesday that the decisions taken at the Bonn conference were a historic step for establishing peace in Afghanistan and rebuilding the country.
According to a press release, a meeting of the association unanimously approved a communique, which stated: “Bonn conference about Afghanistan was recently held under the auspices of the UN. The conference, apart from forming an interim government under the leadership of Mr Hamid Karzai, also approved a programme for convening an emergency Loya Jirga, formation of transitional government and subsequently holding of free and fair election.
“We appeal to the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan to firmly stand in support of the decisions of Bonn conference. We expect from the interim Afghan government that it will provide greater opportunities for the participation of civil society in social and political process. We also hope that prisoners of war will be treated in accordance with international law under the supervision of the central government.”
