KARACHI: SSUET plans PhD, MPhil programmes

KARACHI, Dec 27: The Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology is starting PhD and MPhil programmes from February, 2004.

A meeting of varsity’s board of governors, presided over by its Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Syed Nazir Ahmad, gave approval for conducting the two programmes in the light of Academic Council’s report on Saturday.

The PhD programme would span over at least 3 years, besides two-year MPhil programme, it was decided.

In order to facilitate the students in getting admissions in the programmes, a supervisor would be appointed from some reputed institution, while a teacher would also be hired from some foreign varsity to ensure the quality of research, it decided.

The board also gave approval for establishment of Chairs of Professor Emeratus.

Prof Nazir apprised the meeting of varsity’s educational and co-curricular activities and of the progress made in research.

The board gave approval to the recommendations made by SSUET’s Finance and Planning Committee and the Academic Council. The meeting was attended by Dr MD Shami, Vice-Chairman, Islamic Academy of Sciences, Dr NA Baluch, Mr Justice Fazal Ghani Khan and other officials concerned.—APP
