LONDON, Dec 23: England’s fifth ranked player, Nick Matthew of Sheffield, has displaced Canada’s reigning Super Series Champion, Jonathon Power, as eighth player in 2004 Super Series Finals field for next May, according to Tuesday’s release of Super Series standings for 2003.

Power, who missed last week’s World Open in Lahore due to injury in his left hand, finished the year with same 1,856.25 points total as Matthew. But Sheffield man, ranked only 21 in the world, played all five qualifying events; clinching eighth place ahead of Power as priority is given to player who has played most events.

The 2004 Super Series Finals will take place in a specially-constructed all-glass showcourt at Broadgate Arena in London from 10-14 May.—PPI
