HYDERABAD: BD leader recalls ’71 debacle

HYDERABAD, Dec 23: A former Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami, Bangladesh, Professor Ghulam Azam, has said that Pakistan was created through the power of ballot but it was disintegrated through the power of bullet.

He was speaking at a reception hosted in his honour by the local chapter of the JI here on Monday night.

He said that the stranded Pakistanis in Bangladesh were the most oppressed refugees in the world

Professor Azam said that one person in Pakistan, who wanted to become a king, had alienated the people of Bengal and Shaikh Mujeebur Rehman never wanted to break Pakistan.

Talking about the stranded Pakistanis, the JI leader said that Bangladesh government had offered them citizenship but they rejected the offer and added that Pakistan was also not prepared to accept them.

Professor Azam claimed that the Rabita Alam-i-Islami had offered to bear the expenses of bringing the stranded Pakistanis to Pakistan.

He, however, said that the new generation of the refugees was fast merging into Bangladesh but the old generation faced enormous difficulties in this regard.

He said Bangladesh was surrounded by India from all sides and added that India was not even a good neighbour what to talk of being a friend.

He said that Bangladesh had successfully experimented the system of Islamic banking and Pakistan could learn from this experience as banking experts of Bangladesh would be happy to provide training in Islamic banking.

He said that the JI was lucky to have the dynamic personality of Qazi Hussain Ahmed as its leader and expressed the hope that an Islamic government would come into existence under his leadership.

He paid tribute to Syed Abul Aala Moudoodi and advised the people to study Tafheem-ul-Quran.

The local JI leaders, Abdul Waheed Qureshi, Shaikh Shoukat Ali and Dr Fawad Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.
