Newly appointed ISPR chief takes charge, Bajwa bids farewell

The newly appointed chief of Inter-Services Public Relations Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor has taken charge of his office, replacing Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa, the Inter military's media wing reported on Sunday.

Maj Gen Ghafoor was appointed Director General ISPR earlier this month. He was previously commanding a division in Swat.

Marking the occasion, the outgoing ISPR chief Lt Gen Bajwa tweeted his farewell message in which he thanked the media for their support and extended well wishes for Maj Gen Ghafoor.

Maj Gen Ghafoor was quick to announce his presence on the social media as well, as he posted from his newly formed Twitter and Facebook accounts.

The newly appointed ISPR chief is said to have a vast experience of operations and has commanded a unit in Operation Al-Mizan. He has also served in military operations directorate and remained involved in finalisation of the National Action Plan (NAP).

The shuffle came shortly after the appointment of Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa as army chief.

Maj Gen Ghafoor is from Pakistan Military Academy’s 78th Long Course and was commissioned in service in 1988. He was promoted as a major general in January this year.
