LAHORE, Dec 19: Fog blanketed the city for the first time during the current winter on Friday, increasing intensity of the weather.
Dense fog started developing during the early hours of Friday, reducing visibility to a minimum 100 metres at 5:30am. However, the visibility improved after 8am.
The minimum temperatures during the previous night was 7.7 degrees C. But the maximum temperatures on Friday was 20.5 degrees because of the sunshine.
The local Met office has predicted more fog in Lahore during the next 24 hours.
APP ADDS: Airport sources said 10 flights, five of those in-coming, were affected. The flights, which were diverted to Karachi during foggy conditions in the city, reached here in the afternoon.
The outgoing flights that were affected included the Qatar Airlines’ for Doha and PIA’s flights for New York and Manchester. These flights later took off much behind their scheduled time.
According to railways sources, the schedule of a number of trains coming from other stations was affected due to fog. Allama Iqbal Express was late by three hours, Quetta Express by an hour and Tez Gam by two hours.
Weather experts said it started getting foggy about 11.30pm on Thursday night. The fog started getting thicker with humidity rising till 5am.
The Met Office has forecast fogy conditions for a couple of days due to higher percentage of moisture.
