LARKANA, Dec 19: A five-member team of the consultants of Asian Development Bank (ADB), Sindh irrigation department and Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority (SIDA), arrived here on Friday following the reports of ‘changing course’ of the River Indus at Akil-Aghani loop bund.
The team members Faraukh, Muzaffar Bokhari, Abid ( ADB consultants), Mr Sindhu, consultant to Sindh irrigation department and Muhammed Moosa Memon, the General Manager of SIDA were briefed with the help of charts by the engineers of Northern Dadu division of Western Sindh Circle, Larkana, at Mohenjodaro.
The team members asked the department for more data so as to have an in-depth study of the threat to the flood protective embankment including massive repair at mile 1/7 where the Indus directly strikes at 90 angle.
The team also sought time to carry out the study of the changing river course.
During the visit at the site, this correspondent witnessed river action near Shaikh village. At the end of the Abkalani season of 2003, the irrigation department observed that the River had once again shifted its course completely, the sources said.
Rustication: Dr Assadullah Mahar, vice principal of Chandka Medical College (CMC), Larkana, has sought the rustication of Aijaz Manganhar, a student MBBS final year.
In a letter to the Secretary Health, government of Sindh on Friday, the vice-principal, who was attacked, abused and his office ransacked, said that Aijaz had been in practice of misbehaving the teachers.
