SUKKUR, Dec 19: The Sindh High Court, Sukkur bench, here on Friday ordered the police to send Shaista Almani to Karachi with her father, sister and two brothers for treatment and rehabilitation till the next hearing of Jan 21, 2003.

Ms Almani was produced before the SHC bench, comprising Justice Zahid Qurban Alvi and Justice Maqbool Baqar, after her return from Hyderabad on Thursday and passing the night at Police Lines.

Ms Almani met the judges in their chamber and later appeared in the courtroom.

In the two-page order, the judges deplored that she was not allowed to stay with her sister in Jamshoro and termed it as a reflection of the insensitivity of society towards girls. They said that proper arrangements had been made in Karachi for her medical treatment by competent doctors and added she and her family were given the time and opportunity to normalize their lives.

The judges reiterated that protection of the entire family be ensured and also ordered that during her stay in Karachi, maximum secrecy be maintained as the girl and her family needed to be left alone.

They said that in their earlier order, they had clearly stated that anybody who did not guarantee her safety, would be held liable if any thing happened to her.

They said that the Sukkur DPO, who was present in the court, guaranteed safe transportation of the girl and her family to Karachi.

A human rights’ organization has made arrangements to send Ms Almani and her family to Karachi by air.

SHAISTA TALKS TO JOURNALISTS: Earlier, Ms Almani told journalists at the Police Lines that she had considered her sister as her last support but after her behaviour she had lost hope.

She said that she was passing a miserable life for the last two months and had nowhere to go.

Pledging never to see her former husband, Ms Almani said that she thought love was a sacred feeling and trusted in Balkhsher Mahar but he had left her alone.

She advised the girls of Sindh not to endanger their lives by marrying against the will of their families.

She paid tributes to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Women Action Forum and the SHC bench for taking interests in saving her life and said that without their support, she might have been killed long ago.

Condemning the attitude of Khuda Bukhsh Almani, she said that he belonged to her village otherwise she had no relation with him. He had done much damage to her for the reason best known to him, she added.

Ms Almani said that she wanted to take a sigh of relief but on the contrary constantly felt that death was following her everywhere.

She said that she wanted to have a sound sleep as she had been unable to sleep for many days.
