PESHAWAR, Dec 16: A two-member bench of the Peshawar High Court on Tuesday dismissed an appeal of a man and his son and upheld their conviction in a murder case.

The appellants, Mohammad Azhar and his son Ghulam Sher, were sentenced to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs50,000 each by an additional district and sessions judge after they were found guilty of killing a man.

The bench comprising Justice Malik Hamid Saeed and Justice Shahjehan Khan Yousafzai observed that the evidence on record connected the appellants with the commission of the offence.

The appellants had killed Imtiaz Khan at Latamber, Karak, on May 19, 2000, over a petty issue.

The complainant in the case was Aftab Alam, a relative of the deceased.

Advocate Asadullah Chamkani appeared for the complainant and argued that the appellants were directly charged in the case.

RELEASED: Two judicial magistrates on Tuesday visited the central prison and released 16 persons involved in petty offences.

Magistrates Adil Akber Khan and Asghar Ali Shah heard the cases of the persons and issued orders for their release.

Most of them were charged under sections three and four of the Prohibition (Enforcement of Hudood) Order, 1979, and Section 107 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
